Daejeon City Expands Support for Crop Disaster Insurance Premiums for 67 Items

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City is expanding support for local farmers to enroll in crop disaster insurance.

Crop disaster insurance is a system designed to compensate for damages to crops and facilities caused by natural disasters.

According to the city on the 2nd, until last year, it supported 80% of the insurance premium. However, starting this year, the support rate will be increased to 100% for rice and 90% for crops other than rice, aiming to reduce the economic burden on farmers and enhance disaster prevention and income protection functions.

The eligible crops for enrollment include 67 items such as fruit trees, grains, vegetables, specialty crops, and facility crops. Insurance premiums vary depending on the crop type, area, and insurance rate.

Accordingly, the city emphasizes that farmers cultivating crops on farmland should visit their nearest local Nonghyup, Horticultural Nonghyup, or Livestock Cooperative for consultation before enrolling.

A city official stated, “Crop disaster insurance is an essential system for agricultural management that allows compensation for losses when damage occurs due to unpredictable natural disasters,” and added, “We urge farmers to enroll in the insurance to reduce their economic burden and ensure stable farming activities.”
