Concerns Over Administrative Gaps Amid Omicron Spread... Seongdong-gu Swiftly Secures and Supports Self-Diagnosis Kits
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (District Mayor Jung Won-oh) has urgently provided self-diagnostic kits to local police stations and fire stations to strengthen COVID-19 prevention measures.
This decision by Seongdong-gu comes amid concerns about potential administrative gaps due to confirmed COVID-19 cases occurring within key public institutions such as police and fire stations, as the nationwide number of cases increases with the recent spread of the Omicron variant.
Although each institution has already established response systems for confirmed cases, given the rapid spread of Omicron, Seongdong-gu expects that supporting self-diagnostic kits will enable these institutions to quickly identify confirmed cases and minimize disruptions to their operations.
In particular, since police and fire stations play a crucial role in maintaining public order and safety and frequently interact with the public, making them vulnerable to infection risks, Seongdong-gu is committed to preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the region through this self-diagnostic kit support.
To this end, Seongdong-gu swiftly secured approximately 5,000 self-diagnostic kits, which are currently in short supply on the ground, and delivered them to Seongdong Police Station and Seongdong Fire Station.
Each institution expressed their welcome and gratitude. The Seongdong Police Station stated, “Thanks to Seongdong District Office’s proactive response, we have been able to establish a more thorough COVID-19 prevention system,” adding, “We will be even more dedicated to the police’s duty to protect the lives and safety of citizens.”
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, emphasized, “Just as Seongdong District Office, Seongdong Police Station, and Seongdong Fire Station jointly established the smart CCTV video monitoring system to enable swift response and cooperation in case of accidents, the three institutions share the common goal of protecting residents’ safety and must not hesitate to cooperate with each other. I believe that this support of self-diagnostic kits is a natural step in this regard. Going forward, if there is anything necessary to protect residents’ safety and prevent COVID-19 in the region, we will always spare no effort in cooperating with related institutions.”
