The request was also supported by the United Kingdom, France, and others.
Earlier, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US Ambassador to the UN, met with Cho Hyun, the South Korean Ambassador to the UN, and Kimihiro Ishikane, the Japanese Ambassador to the UN, the day before, immediately after North Korea's launch of a medium-range ballistic missile, to discuss North Korea's missile launches.
Ant?nio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, also stated on the same day, "It is deeply concerning that North Korea has once again disregarded international aviation and maritime safety," urging North Korea to stop additional measures that only produce counterproductive effects and calling on all parties to seek peaceful and diplomatic solutions.
