"Pockets Get Lighter, but Food and Drink Prices Keep Rising"
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] The domino effect of price hikes among distribution companies shows no signs of stopping. Following the price increases of ingredients such as gochujang and doenjang, prices of bread, hamburgers, and cakes will also rise simultaneously next month.
According to industry sources on the 29th, SPC Group's bakery brand Paris Baguette will raise prices on some products starting from the 9th of next month. Among a total of 756 items, 66 items including bread and cakes will see an average price increase of 6.7%.
With this price hike, the price of 'Jeongtong Milk Bread' will increase from 2,800 won to 2,900 won, 'Choux Cream Bread' from 1,200 won to 1,300 won, and the 'My Number One 3' cake from 27,000 won to 28,000 won.
Hamburger franchise Mom's Touch will also raise the selling prices of major products by up to 900 won starting from the 3rd of next month. The price increase applies to a total of 37 items including burgers, chicken, and side menus.
By item, burgers will increase by 300 won, bone-in chicken by 900 won, and side menus by 100 to 400 won. With this price increase, the 'Ssaiburger' will rise from 3,800 won to 4,100 won for a single item. The 'Bulgogi Burger' will increase from 3,000 won to 3,300 won. For chicken, the price of one whole 'Fried Chicken' will go up from 15,000 won to 15,900 won.
A Mom's Touch representative explained, "Due to the difficult environment caused by the global logistics crisis leading to a sharp rise in raw material prices, minimum wage increases, delivery platform cost hikes, and rent increases, we decided to raise prices to protect the profits of franchise owners."
Earlier, Lotteria raised product prices by an average of 4.1% on the 1st of last month, followed by Burger King increasing some product prices by an average of 2.9% starting from the 7th of this month. On the 25th, Shake Shack also raised prices on some products by an average of 3%.
