Korea Election Commission: "Postal Voting for Confirmed Cases... Self-Quarantined Voters to Vote After 6 PM"

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] In the presidential election to be held on March 9, COVID-19 confirmed patients will vote by mail, and those in self-quarantine will vote at temporary polling stations after 6 p.m., when voting ends.

According to the "Plan to Guarantee Voting Rights for COVID-19 Quarantined Voters" submitted by the Central Election Commission to Rep. Lee Yong-ho of the People Power Party on the 29th, voters who have been confirmed positive and are in hospitals or self-quarantine will be able to apply for absentee voting (mail voting).

If a voter is confirmed positive after the absentee voting application period and is admitted to a residential treatment center, the plan is to consider installing a special early voting station within the residential treatment center.

In cases of self-quarantine due to contact with confirmed patients, only voters who have applied will be allowed to vote at temporary polling stations after 6 p.m., once all general voters have left.

Rep. Lee said, "We need to make more meticulous plans and disclose them in detail to the public to guarantee the voting rights of COVID-19 confirmed patients and quarantined individuals," adding, "We must strive to prevent controversies such as election fraud."
