Game Industry Targets 'Contactless Holiday' Season... Launches Various Events to Attract New Customers


[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] As the spread of COVID-19 has made 'contactless holidays' the norm, the number of people spending the Lunar New Year holiday playing games has significantly increased. The gaming industry has launched various events during the Lunar New Year holiday to attract new customers.


According to the gaming industry on the 29th, Nexon is holding events in 17 online and mobile games it services to celebrate Seollal. To let users feel the holiday atmosphere in the games, they are gifting various items related to Seollal such as rice cake soup and dried persimmons, and also conducting in-game events using traditional games. Additionally, to mark the Year of the Tiger, they are distributing various tiger-themed items.


Events related to the Lunar New Year holiday are being held not only in online games like 'Sudden Attack' and 'FIFA Online 4' but also in mobile games such as 'The Kingdom of the Winds: Yeon' and 'KartRider Rush Plus.'


NCSoft is also presenting various events in seven mobile games ahead of Seollal. ‘Lineage M’ and ‘Lineage 2M’ are selling limited edition items in the in-game stores until the 3rd of next month. Four PC games including ‘Lineage Remastered’ and ‘Lineage 2’ are also offering various events.


Com2uS is conducting special events in mobile games as well. The global hit ‘Summoners War: Sky Arena’ is holding the ‘Seollal Lucky Bag Event’ until the 6th of next month. Diverse Lunar New Year events are also being held in sports games, with special holiday-only events in ‘Com2uS Pro Baseball’ and ‘Golf Star’ during the Seollal holiday.
