[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samyang Foods announced on the 28th that it has installed a ‘Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system’ at its Milyang factory, which is scheduled to be completed in the first half of the year.

The building-integrated photovoltaic system installed by Samyang Foods is a state-of-the-art facility that uses solar cells as building exterior materials. By integrating the solar power system with the wall structure, it shortens construction time and is effective in reducing construction costs. Additionally, it allows construction without affecting the building’s load-bearing performance, insulation, or waterproofing due to the solar installation. It also offers the advantage of an elegant appearance, facilitating the spread of eco-friendly energy.

The building-integrated photovoltaic system at the Milyang factory covers an area of 2,140㎡, with a total of 924 panels installed on two exterior walls. The annual power generation is 436 MWh, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 760 households for one year. This is said to have the effect of planting 896 trees annually and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 194 tons.

Previously, Samyang Foods signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Energy Agency last year for ‘mutual cooperation to promote the spread of new and renewable energy.’ Through this, they agreed to actively participate in the government’s Green New Deal policy by mutually cooperating to promote the spread of new and renewable energy and participate in the Korean-style ‘RE100’ (achieving 100% renewable energy) campaign.

A representative of Samyang Foods stated, “We are considering applying the solar power generation installed at the Milyang factory to existing factories as well,” and added, “We will gradually introduce renewable energy such as solar power to create an eco-friendly workplace.”
