[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Kim Jae-won, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, made a slip of the tongue during a live terrestrial broadcast debate, saying "Candidate Yoon Seok-yeol must never become president," but later corrected himself.
On the night of the 27th, during MBC's '100-Minute Debate,' Kim made the remark while responding to Rep. Park Chan-dae of the Democratic Party of Korea.
In the broadcast, Rep. Park mentioned the conflict between People Power Party presidential candidate Yoon Seok-yeol and Rep. Hong Joon-pyo, saying, "(During the bilateral meeting) Rep. Hong Joon-pyo seemed to make somewhat unreasonable demands to Candidate Yoon, such as 'We need to supplement state administration capabilities and strictly punish family-related corruption.' Isn't it because the People Power Party couldn't handle this that a private meeting was made public?"
In response, Kim said, "Even if the Democratic Party makes such evaluations, our path is clear. Rep. Hong Joon-pyo said that Candidate Lee Jae-myung must never become president," and added, "In that sense, I think Rep. Hong is going to help Candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, and in fact, he is helping him."
He then said, "Please don't be too pleased and listen carefully to Rep. Hong's words. Candidate Yoon Seok-yeol is someone who must never become president." He mistakenly said 'Yoon Seok-yeol' instead of 'Lee Jae-myung.'
The panel burst into laughter upon hearing this. Former Supreme Council member of the Open Democratic Party, Jeong Bong-ju, joked, "Yoon Seok-yeol? Understood." Flustered by the slip, Kim apologized, saying, "I'm sorry. What I meant was that Candidate Lee Jae-myung must never become president," and corrected himself by adding, "Since I always praise Candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, it came out that way."
