[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] The operation of Seoul Subway Line 4 was temporarily disrupted due to a protest by disability rights groups demanding mobility rights.
On the 28th, the National Solidarity for the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities held a protest from around 7:20 a.m. for about 1 hour and 20 minutes between Hansung University Entrance Station and Seoul Station on Seoul Subway Line 4. They conducted the protest by riding electric wheelchairs and blocking the subway doors from closing.
As a result of the protest, train operations in both directions on Line 4 were delayed by 5 to 10 minutes. Since early last month, disability groups have been voicing demands at various Seoul subway stations for the government to increase elevators inside subway stations, disability call taxis, and low-floor buses.
