Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly Member Lee Jong-yeol Receives '2022 Great Korean Award'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] On the 27th, Lee Jong-yeol, a member of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council, received the Grand Prize for Excellence in Local Autonomy at the ‘2022 Great Korean Awards’ ceremony held at the Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Convention Hall.

The ‘Great Korean Awards’ is an event that honors individuals who have contributed to the nation and local communities in various fields such as politics, society, culture, arts, science, and sports. It is an award given to promote a positive image of the Republic of Korea domestically and internationally and to highlight the excellence of its culture.

Assemblyman Lee Jong-yeol served as the Vice Chairman of the Planning and Economy Committee and the Budget and Settlement Special Committee during the first half of the 11th Gyeongbuk Provincial Council. In the latter half, as a member of the Planning and Economy Committee, he took the lead in proposing ordinances such as the ‘Gyeongsangbuk-do Joint Utilization of Research and Development Equipment Ordinance,’ the ‘Gyeongsangbuk-do Agricultural Products Information-Based Production and Distribution Activation Support Ordinance,’ the ‘Partial Amendment to the Gyeongbuk Provincial College Operation Ordinance,’ the ‘Gyeongsangbuk-do Energy Ordinance,’ and the ‘Gyeongsangbuk-do Forest Culture and Recreation Ordinance,’ earning recognition for advancing the regional economy and tourism industry.

In a five-minute free speech at the plenary session, he criticized the Gyeongbuk Province’s inadequate response during the selection process of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport relocation site and urged for the early promotion of the integrated new airport.

Through provincial government questioning, he has worked hard to resolve regional issues, such as encouraging the executive branch to include the exemption from preliminary feasibility studies in the next presidential election pledge for the early promotion of the North-South 6-axis expressway, which has been stalled for 10 years. He is also praised for consistently conducting field-centered legislative activities through communication and harmony with residents on site.

Assemblyman Lee Jong-yeol said, “It is a great honor to receive an award given to a qualified person who has played a pivotal role in the development of the nation and local communities,” and added, “I will strive to develop policies necessary for the residents from their perspective.”

Lee Jong-yeol is the representative of the Management Innovation Research Group, a research group of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council, and is actively engaged in legislative activities on the ground while preparing measures to improve management efficiency of public institutions such as Gyeongbuk Province’s invested and funded organizations.
