[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist] The Constitutional Court ruled on the 27th to suspend the application of the part concerning 'local council members' in Article 47, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 2 of the former Public Officials Pension Act, which stopped the payment of retirement pensions to local council members who are former public officials.

However, the Constitutional Court ordered the continued application of the same provision in the current law until June 30, 2023, as a legislative deadline to prevent a legal vacuum.
