Choi Byeong-il, Head of Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters, Holds Communication Session with 35 Fire Station Chiefs

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Choi Byung-il, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, held the first regional fire commanders' meeting since his inauguration, reviewing current issues such as public safety.

The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters announced on the 27th that Choi Byung-il, who took office at the end of last month, toured the central fire stations of the five regions in the province from the 19th to the 26th of this month, sharing plans to strengthen on-site safety management and major policies with the fire chiefs of the respective jurisdictions and discussing current issues, thereby fostering communication.

All 35 fire station chiefs under the jurisdiction of the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters participated in this meeting.

Director Choi and the fire chiefs exchanged opinions on directions for fire policy and organizational development, as well as measures to enhance on-site response capabilities and safety management during field activities.

In particular, the fire chiefs proposed strengthening the on-site response system, early establishment of 119 Safety Centers to reinforce firefighting capabilities, and enhancement of various response equipment.

Director Choi stated, "It was heartbreaking to lose colleagues early in the new year, and we must thoroughly investigate the causes of the accidents and promptly establish fundamental countermeasures to ensure such incidents never happen again. We ask that innovative technologies be actively applied to both field operations and administration to strengthen on-site response capabilities, and that policy development providing reassurance to marginalized and economically struggling residents be expedited."

He continued, "Please devote efforts to implementing various policies that residents can tangibly feel to realize a safer Gyeonggi-do. In particular, fire prevention measures and safety management must be carried out meticulously targeting frequently fire-prone logistics warehouses, construction sites, and high-rise buildings."
