[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education is promoting a remodeling support project for aging special classrooms this year.

The Busan Office of Education is conducting this project to provide a safe and comfortable educational environment for students with special educational needs and to expand the foundation for future education.

Prior to remodeling, from 2019 for three years, a total of 2,252.8 million KRW was spent to improve the educational environment of special classrooms in 80 classes across 76 schools, including 4 kindergartens, 41 elementary schools, 18 middle schools, and 17 high schools.

As a campaign pledge of the 4th elected superintendent and according to the ‘5th Five-Year Plan for the Development of Special Education in Busan,’ the project has been promoted annually over four years from 2019 to 2022.

This year, a total of 648.6 million KRW will be invested to support up to 30 million KRW per class for special classrooms that have been installed for more than five years.

Six elementary school classrooms, nine middle school classrooms, and ten high school classrooms in 22 schools with 25 classes will be newly renovated, and the support funds will be used not only for remodeling but also for expanding teaching materials and tools and creating a future educational environment.

Kwon Hyukje, Director of Secondary Education, said, “This project is being promoted to provide a safe and comfortable educational environment that considers the characteristics of students with special educational needs and aligns with the Fourth Industrial Revolution era,” adding, “The transformed classrooms will help increase students’ motivation to learn.”
