Expansion of Convenience Facilities and Maintenance of Trails at Two Parks Including the West Coast Area

Jeonbuk Province Expands Infrastructure for Geo Park Ecological Exploration

[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hanho] Jeonbuk Province announced on the 27th that it is focusing on expanding and maintaining various infrastructure to diversify the exploration resources within the West Coast area and Jinan-Muju National Geopark and to enhance the convenience of visitors.

In Jeollabuk-do, the Jeonbuk West Coast area and Jinan-Muju National Geoparks were certified as national geoparks in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

Accordingly, Jeonbuk Province began operating newly established websites for each park in 2020, renovated and newly established two geological trails (Jinan Unilam-Banilam, Gochang Byeongbawi), and built one visitor center and one visitor information center in Muju.

Last year, a total of 36 guidance facilities such as signboards and direction markers were maintained, and related facilities such as fences and observatories were constructed for the preservation and utilization of geological sites.

In addition, ecological and geological experience and rest spaces such as Ungok Wetland Geological Trail (Gochang) and Unilam-Banilam Geo Forest (Jinan) were created to improve the convenience and satisfaction of geopark visitors.

In particular, Jeollabuk-do and the relevant counties plan to actively promote the expansion of new infrastructure so that geopark visitors can have more satisfying ecological and geological experiences.

To provide ecological and healing spaces for visitors exhausted by the spread of COVID-19, additional rest areas such as geological trails will be created, and comprehensive inspections and maintenance of various guidance facilities such as geological site explanation boards will be carried out.

Furthermore, one additional visitor center will be established to operate new geological education and experience programs, provide exploration guidance, and support guide activities, thereby diversifying exploration resources and providing systematic exploration information.

Moreover, as demand for ecological and healing tourism utilizing natural resources continues to increase due to the spread of COVID-19, efforts will be made to expand the scope of our province’s ecological and geological exploration resources, including new brand certifications.
