[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] The Apple Original series "Pachinko" will be released on March 25.
On the 27th, the online video service (OTT) Apple TV Plus announced this and released stills featuring actors Youn Yuh-jung, Lee Min-ho, and others.
Produced in Korean, Japanese, and English, "Pachinko" consists of 8 episodes. Starting with the release of 3 episodes, one episode will be released every Friday until April 29.
"Pachinko," based on the New York Times bestseller of the same name, tells a story that begins with forbidden love. It depicts an unforgettable chronicle of war and peace, love and parting, victory and judgment, spanning Korea, Japan, and the United States.
Showrunner Soo Hugh ("The Terror," "The Killing") wrote the script and served as executive producer. He said, "Some works can deeply change the inner self of a filmmaker and a human being. There is no doubt that 'Pachinko' is a project that changed me."
Soo Hugh added, "This is a story and tribute to my ancestors. It is also a story dedicated to all the 'Seonja' who exist in the family histories of all of us. I am honored to realize this project with such dedicated and talented actors and production staff."
Director Kogonada directed and produced a total of 4 episodes, including one pilot episode, while director Justin Chon directed and produced the other 4 episodes.
Media Res produced the series, with Michael Ellenberg, Lindsay Springer, and Danny Goorin of Media Res credited as executive producers. Teresa Kang Low of Blue Marble Pictures, along with Richard Middleton, David Kim, and Sebastian Lee, participated as co-executive producers.
Actors Lee Min-ho, Jung Eun-chae, and Youn Yuh-jung star in the series.
