This Year’s Women Leader Development Program 'SheHeroes' Produces First CEO from Its Inaugural Class
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Shinhan Financial Group announced on the 27th that it has been included in the 2022 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (BGEI) for the fourth consecutive year, as announced by the global financial information agency Bloomberg.
The BGEI is selected by Bloomberg by evaluating five categories for companies listed on U.S. stock exchanges with a market capitalization of over $1 billion: female leadership and talent development, equal pay and gender pay parity, inclusive culture, anti-discrimination policies, and women-friendly branding.
Shinhan Financial Group was especially recognized for the achievements of various gender equality-related initiatives, including operating 'Shinhan She-roes' to nurture female talent at the group manager level, expanding the scale of female promotions, improving salary and welfare systems, expanding group joint daycare centers, and introducing shortened working hours during pregnancy.
A Shinhan Financial Group official stated, "Being included in the BGEI for four consecutive years is the result of Shinhan Financial's active promotion of female talent development and career advancement," adding, "We will continue to strengthen the capabilities of female talent and spread a culture of gender equality, while fulfilling our social responsibilities as a top-tier Shinhan Financial through various Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) activities."
Meanwhile, since 2018, Shinhan Financial Group launched Shinhan She-roes, the first female leader development program in the financial sector, with the goal of systematically nurturing female leaders. The Shinhan She-roes program has developed a total of 186 female leaders across 14 group companies to date, and this year produced notable results, including appointing Cho Kyung-sun, a She-roes alumna and the first female CEO of a group company, as President and CEO of Shinhan DS (1st class).
