Hyunmoon Cho, Vice President of Hyosung
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Former Hyosung Vice President Cho Hyun-moon, who was sued by Hyosung Chairman Cho Hyun-joon for attempted extortion, appeared at the prosecution.
According to the legal community on the 26th, the 14th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Ji-wan) summoned former Vice President Cho as a suspect and is investigating him this morning.
Since July 2014, former Vice President Cho triggered a 'brothers' conflict' within the Hyosung family by filing complaints and accusations against his older brother Chairman Cho Hyun-joon and key executives, alleging embezzlement and breach of trust. In response, Chairman Cho's side counter-sued former Vice President Cho in 2017 for attempted extortion, claiming that he threatened him with advice and counsel from Park Soo-hwan, former CEO of News Communication, and others.
The prosecution, which investigated the case at the time, had suspended the indictment (a disposition to temporarily suspend investigation when the suspect's whereabouts cannot be found) due to former Vice President Cho's disappearance overseas, but recently lifted it after confirming his whereabouts upon his return to Korea.
