Practical Korea-China Diplomacy: Bridging Role of Next-Generation Leadership
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Seon Gyeong-il, former International Cooperation Officer of Jeonnam Province, has been appointed as the Head of the Global Cooperation Special Advisory Group for the Democratic Party's presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung's Central Election Committee.
The Democratic Party Central Election Committee's General Special Advisory Group is a think tank composed of experts from various fields under the leadership of General Director Jeong Seong-ho, supporting candidate Lee Jae-myung's policies and pledges.
The Global Cooperation Special Advisory Group is an organization aimed at winning the presidential election by connecting various institutions and civic groups supporting candidate Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party worldwide to create synergy effects.
Chairman Seon Gyeong-il expressed his thoughts, saying, "I feel an immense responsibility in taking on this important role at a critical turning point toward becoming one of the five advanced countries in this presidential election, not only in diplomacy, trade, and security with the US and China as G2 powers but also in improving the status of overseas Koreans around the globe."
He added, "The bilateral relationship between Korea and China, which has been the most uncomfortable since the establishment of diplomatic ties, will, with the establishment of the 4th Democratic government, pursue a new Korea-China relationship that seeks 聚同化異 (actively resolving differences) rather than 求同存異 (seeking common interests while temporarily setting aside differences) through practical and constructive cooperation. I will do my best to lay the foundation for this."
Chairman Seon achieved outstanding results in export trade, investment attraction, and tourism promotion during his 11 years as the head of the Jeonnam Province China Office.
Based on his extensive network in China, the four high-level meetings between then Jeonnam Governor Park Jun-young and Xi Jinping, then Zhejiang Province and Shanghai Party Secretary and Vice President of China, are still regarded as significant historical events in local diplomacy circles.
Born in Boseong, Jeonnam, Chairman Seon graduated from Gwangju Daedong High School, majored in Finance at National Taiwan University, and completed a master's degree in International Business at Sungkyunkwan University. He entered public service in 1997 as a China expert.
