[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Dr. Ahn Seol-hee, daughter of Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People’s Party, has started public activities through YouTube videos. She revealed the human side of candidate Ahn through vlogs and stated that she will communicate consistently.

Dr. Ahn, who returned to Korea on the 23rd, said on the candidate’s official YouTube channel on the 25th, "In the morning, I plan to work from home all day and shoot vlogs in the afternoon," adding, "Through YouTube, I hope to show what kind of person Ahn Cheol-soo is beyond being a politician, and what kind of father he is."

She expressed concern, saying, "I met my father in person after a long time, and he seemed very tired. I hope his schedule decreases," and added, "Although this is an important period, I am very worried about his health condition. My parents have been through a lot."

Regarding her feelings about returning to Korea, she said, "I am staying at my parents’ house and currently under self-quarantine until noon on the 2nd of next month," and shared, "It’s nice to come back to Korea, see my parents after a long time, and enjoy Korean food to my heart’s content." She also said, "Once the quarantine is over, I want to visit my grandparents to pay New Year’s greetings," and added, "I will visit my grandparents’ house, pay New Year’s respects, and spend the Lunar New Year together."

Dr. Ahn continued, "My grandfather was a doctor and established a hospital in a poor village in Busan, volunteering a lot from a young age," and said, "The desire to volunteer seems to be something my father inherited from my grandfather, and I also received it from my father."

Regarding her future activity plans, she said, "I want to communicate a lot with everyone," and added, "If you have any questions, please leave them in the YouTube comments. I hope to create many interesting YouTube contents based on them."

Meanwhile, Dr. Ahn is working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, San Diego campus. She was introduced domestically after the results of her research on the transmissibility of COVID-19 variants were published in The New York Times (NYT). On December 1 last year (local time), NYT reported the research results of the team Dr. Ahn belongs to in an article titled "The Coronavirus in a Tiny Drop."

Dr. Ahn received the Gordon Bell Special Prize, known as the "Nobel Prize of supercomputing," in 2020, and in June last year, she was awarded the American Chemical Society (ACS) Physical Chemistry Division’s "Young Investigator Award" for her paper on "Improved Methods for Kinetics of Biomolecules and Applications to Triazine Polymers."
