‘Cultural City’ Mokpo... Music Play to be Held This October

Even Years Mokpo Music Play, Odd Years Literature Expo Held

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] Mokpo City, Jeonnam Province, announced on the 25th that following last year's Literature Expo, it will introduce a new cultural tourism product centered on music this year.

The city will hold the "2022 Mokpo Music Play" at Gatbawi Culture Town this coming October.

Mokpo is a city deeply connected with popular musicians who have left significant marks on the history of Korean popular music, such as Mrs. In Nayoung, the Kim Sisters, composer Son Seokwoo, and Nam Jin.

The city decided to hold the "2022 Mokpo Music Play" to develop these musical resources into cultural and artistic products, and further into industry and tourism. To this end, the Mokpo Music Festival (TF) team was newly established in the personnel reshuffle in the first half of this year.

Having secured the city brand as the "City of Literature" by hosting the nation's first-ever "Literature Expo" themed on literature last year as the "cradle of modern literature," the city plans to promote its status as the "cradle of popular music" and the "starting point of Hallyu music" through the "2022 Mokpo Music Play."

The "2022 Mokpo Music Play" will consist of competitions, performances, and experiences open to all citizens nationwide. The city is currently conducting a basic planning project and will establish detailed implementation plans through consultations with citizens and experts.

Since "Mokpo Music Play" is scheduled to be held every even year, along with the "Literature Expo" held in odd years, large-scale cultural and artistic events will take place every autumn in Mokpo.
