“Brilliant Creativity Ready for Immediate Implementation”
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Big Data Innovation Sharing University Project Group at Gyeongsang National University held an awards ceremony for the ‘Big Data Idea Contest’ on the 21st in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of the College of Engineering. The subtitle of the contest was ‘Big Data, We’re Kkanbu.’
The Gyeongsang National University Big Data Project Group, participating in the Digital New Technology Talent Nurturing Innovation Sharing University Project led by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, conducted this contest to create an active big data education environment with a familiar theme and to enhance students’ big data utilization capabilities.
The contest was held over three months from November last year to January this year with free themes such as ‘Proposals for a Wise University Life’ and ‘Ideas for Regional Community Development’ through big data analysis, with a total of 31 teams applying.
The Big Data Project Group selected six finalist teams through the first round of document screening by experts. The selected teams implemented their proposed ideas under the guidance of big data mentor professors appointed by the project group.
The Big Data Project Group finalized the rankings by evaluating each team’s deliverables in the second presentation evaluation.
Awards were given as Grand Prize, Excellence Award, and Merit Award, with certificates and prizes worth a total of 6 million KRW awarded to all winning teams.
The prestigious Grand Prize was awarded to the GNU·STAT team for their project titled ‘Proposal for a Classification and Notification Service Support System for Information Mixed Across Various SNS on Campus.’
The Grand Prize item collects information scattered across multiple systems such as educational programs and employment, and provides it via email and text messages. It is a system that enables students and faculty to acquire and utilize important information in a timely manner.
The judges evaluated that it would be good to implement this system immediately on the school website.
The Excellence Award-winning projects, ‘Water Quality Improvement Plan for Jinju City through Big Data Analysis’ and ‘Optimal Site Selection for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in Jinju City and Creation of Predictive Models Related to Electric Vehicles,’ were also evaluated as excellent ideas beyond the student level.
The project group plans to actively review with the university headquarters the application of works related to improving school life on campus.
Han Kwan-hee, head of the Gyeongsang National University Big Data Innovation Sharing University Project Group, said, “It seems to have been a good opportunity to increase students’ understanding and interest in the big data field,” adding, “We will continue to promote various big data projects to nurture digital new technology talents suitable for the rapidly changing digital environment.”
