[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Lotte Confectionery's Pepero has recorded sales approaching 2 trillion won from its inception in 1995, the year 'Pepero Day' was established, until December 2021. When converted into 'Choco Pepero' boxes, this amounts to approximately 3.4 billion boxes, which, if lined up end to end, would stretch about 500,000 km. This distance is enough to circle the Earth more than 12 times.
Launched in 1983, Pepero began to attract significant global attention following the creation of 'Pepero Day.' Export revenue increased by more than 30% year-over-year, from 20 million USD in 2013 to 30 million USD in 2014, and then to 40 million USD in 2015. Pepero currently records annual overseas export sales of about 35 billion won and is sold in over 50 countries worldwide, including the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Russia, and the United States.
To meet consumer demands, Lotte Confectionery has obtained various certifications that verify management efficiency and stability. A notable example is the recently acquired certification for children's preferred food quality, which is the first of its kind in the industry.
