Samyang Foods Appoints Lawyer Seo Jeong-sik as Compliance Officer


[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Samyang Foods announced that it has recruited attorney Seo Jeong-sik as its head of legal affairs and appointed him as the compliance officer at the board meeting held on the 25th.


Attorney Seo Jeong-sik graduated from Konkuk University with a degree in law and passed the 40th Judicial Examination in 1998. He began his career as a prosecutor at the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office and has served as a prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, chief prosecutor at the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, and chief prosecutor at the Busan Eastern Branch Prosecutors' Office. He later worked as a partner attorney at the law firm Logos.


As the appointed compliance officer, Attorney Seo Jeong-sik will oversee compliance with legal regulations across all management activities and focus on establishing a culture of compliance management.


Samyang Foods, which is strengthening its compliance functions by establishing a compliance support organization for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, plans to continuously expand the role of this compliance support organization through additional recruitment of attorneys, starting with Attorney Seo Jeong-sik.


A representative from Samyang Foods stated, “Along with the appointment of the compliance officer, we will strengthen the role of related organizations to firmly establish a transparent and ethical management foundation and accelerate ESG management.”


Meanwhile, Samyang Foods has actively promoted ESG management since last year by establishing an Audit Committee, Compensation Committee, Outside Director Candidate Recommendation Committee, and ESG Committee within the board to enhance management transparency. Additionally, it has actively practiced ESG management through initiatives such as introducing eco-friendly packaging materials, fostering co-growth with partner companies, and obtaining consumer-centered management certification. As a result, it received an A grade in the 2021 ESG evaluation conducted by the Korea Corporate Governance Service, rising two levels from the previous year.
