Easily Update Wireless Communication Modules Without Visiting Service Centers
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Volvo Cars Korea announced on the 25th that it will introduce the over-the-air (OTA) wireless software update feature in Korea, starting with the brand's first pure electric vehicle, the C40 Recharge, scheduled for domestic launch next month.
OTA software updates allow customers to update their vehicle software wirelessly through the in-car communication module without visiting a service center. Similar to a smartphone, updates for new features and performance improvements can be done with just one click, keeping the vehicle up to date even after delivery.
Volvo Cars Korea plans to introduce OTA software updates to all models equipped with infotainment based on the Android Automotive operating system (OS), starting with the pure electric C40 and XC40 Recharge.
The main supported update items include basic software for electronic systems, updates to infotainment services such as T map, NUGU, and FLO, and performance improvements for key convenience features. In particular, Volvo Cars Korea will provide free OTA software updates for 15 years to ensure the best customer experience. However, free LTE support for updates is limited to a maximum of 5 years.
Yoon Im-mo, CEO of Volvo Cars Korea, said, "The brand experience that premium cars must offer today is rapidly changing with the new era of connectivity," adding, "Just as the smartphone changed our lives, through this OTA introduction, customers will be able to experience Volvo's intuitive and personalized smart experience going forward."
