[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics' premium TV products have been prominently selected in the list of recommended ultra-large TVs over 70 inches chosen by the U.S. consumer magazine Consumer Reports.
According to the industry on the 25th, Consumer Reports recently selected Samsung Electronics' 75-inch Neo QLED TV (75QN85) and LG Electronics' 77-inch OLED TV (77CX) as recommended premium models over 70 inches.
The first product mentioned on the recommended list was the LG OLED TV, which scored a total of 85 points in performance evaluation, ranking 2nd among 59 models over 70 inches. Consumer Reports praised it for its picture quality, HDR performance, and sound, stating that it "delivers impressive performance overall in every aspect."
Regarding Samsung Electronics' Neo QLED TV, Consumer Reports explained that "by using mini LEDs for the backlight, it improved black expression and contrast ratio, receiving the highest rating among LCD TVs in their own tests." Samsung's Neo QLED TV scored 82 points in Consumer Reports' TV performance evaluation, ranking 5th.
In the more affordable mid-range ultra-large TV category, Samsung QLED TVs and LG NanoCell TVs were recommended. Additionally, products released by Japan's Sony, China's TCL, Hisense, and the U.S.'s Vizio were also included in the recommended list. For entry-level models over 70 inches, Samsung QLED TV (70Q60), LG UHD TV (70UP), as well as products from TCL and Hisense were recommended.
North America is the largest region in the global TV market. According to market research firm Omdia, it is estimated that 42.5% of ultra-large TVs over 70 inches sold worldwide last year were sold in the North American region. As of the third quarter of last year, Samsung Electronics held the largest market share of 49.3% in the North American market for TVs over 70 inches, followed by LG Electronics with 17.2%.
