[Asia Economy Online Issue Team] Kim Heechul of the group Super Junior, who had declared he would remain single, surprised many by revealing plans to get married in 2023.
On the 23rd episode of SBS variety show 'My Ugly Duckling (Miwoosae)', Kim Heechul made a bombshell confession announcing his marriage. He said, "Being 39 and 40 years old feels really different. My mother and father have a wish. They want to see me graduate honorably from 'My Ugly Duckling.' I have never enjoyed any of my graduation ceremonies since school," he revealed.

In response, comedian Kim Junho joked, "I heard you have to die to quit here," bringing laughter. Undeterred, Kim Heechul declared, "This year, once COVID-19 ends, I will hold my wedding early next year and invite all of you." Kim Heechul's mother, watching in the studio, was taken aback. Former basketball player Seo Janghoon also shook his head, saying, "That's nonsense."
Kim Heechul said, "That's my plan." Other members murmured, questioning if it was possible. Kim Jongmin said, "No, no. It's hard. If you set a deadline, you have to go even if you don't love." To this, Lee Sangmin laughed and said, "I set the deadline, so if I don't like it, I can just extend it."
Meanwhile, Kim Heechul had declared his intention to remain single last year. He said, "When I was young, I wanted to get married at thirty. But gradually, I didn't want to. Now, I don't think about it at all." However, his sudden change of heart to hold a wedding early next year within a month surprised those around him.
