[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Changwon City in Gyeongnam signed a business agreement on the 24th with industry, academia, research, and government sectors to cultivate high-level talent necessary for the advancement of technology in the materials, parts, and equipment industry.
This agreement was directly prepared by the city to resolve concerns about the shortage of specialized personnel in the materials, parts, and equipment sector and the decline in corporate competitiveness due to the outflow of high-level technical personnel to the metropolitan area.
The main contents of the agreement include the city establishing a foundation for the project through administrative and financial support to smoothly promote the high-level talent cultivation project for the materials, parts, and equipment industry, while the Changwon Industry Promotion Agency plans to support the discovery of participating companies and the development of technology advancement linked tasks.
The Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry will support cooperation matters targeting companies to materialize the project and promote it, and UST, the Korea Institute of Materials Science, and the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute will operate campuses, open courses, support trainees, and provide career guidance for customized professional personnel education needed in the industrial field.
Through this, companies will be supplied with high-level R&D technical personnel they desire by utilizing the infrastructure of national research institutes. It is expected to greatly help activate the materials, parts, and equipment industry while also creating quality jobs for young people.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu said, “We hope to cultivate practical excellent talent desired by companies to further strengthen the competitiveness of materials, parts, and equipment companies,” and added, “We will support young talent to grow together with the region and bring vitality to the industrial field.”
Before promoting the project, Changwon City conducted a research service last year to diagnose the necessity and set the direction of the project. Analyzing survey responses from 126 valid sample companies for corporate education demand, it was found that 22 companies were willing to participate in contract departments for master's and doctoral degrees, and 51 companies showed interest in short-term employee education.
