[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] A video showing rapper Noel (22, real name Jang Yong-jun), who was indicted for refusing a breathalyzer test and assaulting a police officer, verbally abusing and physically struggling with the police during his arrest was revealed in court.
In the trial held on the 24th at the Seoul Central District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Shin Hyuk-jae of Criminal Division 4, the video showed Jang refusing the breathalyzer test by saying to the responding officers, "I didn't drive," and cursing with phrases like "Move, you XX," while physically struggling with the police in front of the vehicle. Jang, who was arrested on the spot by the police, resisted by twisting his body on the road to avoid getting into the patrol car. The police handcuffed him and held both his arms to put him into the car.
The video also showed Jang assaulting a police officer after boarding. The audio captured the injured officer screaming in pain and saying, "(Jang) hit my head with his head." The victim officer A, who appeared as a witness that day, stated, "I remember he resisted getting into the patrol car," and added, "If it was a single collision, it could have been accidental during the struggle, but since it happened twice in a row, I thought it was intentional."
On the evening of September 18 last year, around 10:30 PM, Jang was driving a Mercedes-Benz passenger car at an intersection in Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, when he caused a collision with another vehicle. He was arrested on the spot for refusing the breathalyzer test and assaulting the police. Previously, in 2019, he was indicted for driving under the influence and colliding with a motorcycle in Mapo-gu, Seoul, and was sentenced in June 2020 to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 2-year probation. He is the son of Jang Je-won, a member of the People Power Party.
