Operation of the 'Presidential Election Government Intervention Reporting Center'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The People Power Party's Gwangju Metropolitan City Election Countermeasures Committee announced on the 24th that it has established the ‘20th Presidential Election Government Election Reporting Center’ and has begun full-scale activities to prevent illegal election interference.
With 46 days remaining until the presidential election, the committee plans to focus on activities to completely block election interference by Democratic Party-affiliated metropolitan and local government heads, metropolitan and local council members, and government-affiliated organizations.
Article 86 of the Public Official Election Act generally prohibits local government heads from engaging in activities that influence elections from 60 days before the election day until the election day.
Song Giseok, the People Power Party’s Gwangju City General Election Countermeasures Committee Chair, stated, “If any signs of illegal government election interference are found, we will respond strongly by immediately requesting investigations from the Election Commission and judicial authorities.”
