Gathering Resident Opinions to Alleviate Traffic Congestion and Parking Difficulties
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] On the 24th, Lee Jeongcheol, a member of the Gwangju Buk-gu Council, announced that he held a residents' meeting on the 20th to resolve traffic congestion and parking difficulties caused by the construction of the ‘Sinyong Administrative Complex Town’.
This meeting was organized to gather residents' opinions on solutions to the biggest issue for residents, parking difficulties, before the completion of the Sinyong Administrative Complex Town being built in the area of 680 Sinyong-dong, and to reflect these opinions in policy.
About 20 people attended the meeting, including Seon Seungyeon, a council member from the same district, the chairman of the Sinyong-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee, the head of the Tongjang Association, apartment autonomy chairpersons, and executives of various self-governing organizations. They expressed diverse opinions regarding the construction of the Sinyong Administrative Complex Town and discussed measures to alleviate parking inconveniences in depth.
At the meeting, various opinions were presented, including ▲expanding support for nearby apartment complexes to activate shared parking systems ▲utilizing public parking lots within buffer green spaces ▲promoting the use of vacant commercial parking lots and mechanical parking lots ▲establishing coexistence plans between store merchants and residents. Council member Lee Jeongcheol pledged to directly convey these to the relevant departments of Buk-gu Office and demand follow-up measures as soon as possible.
The Cheondan 2 District has been an area with many complaints from residents due to traffic inconvenience and parking difficulties, as parking facilities have been weak since its initial development.
Council member Lee Jeongcheol said, “Without a sharp solution, the construction of the Sinyong Administrative Complex Town, which has only 34 parking spaces in total as of May this year, is expected to worsen the parking problem. Therefore, I judged that improvement of the parking environment must be accompanied, so I decided to listen directly to residents' opinions and convey them to Buk-gu Office.” He added, “I will do my best to ensure that residents' opinions are reflected in policies through 5-minute speeches and related ordinance amendments in the future.”
