Annual Domestic Sales Target of 25,000 Units ... Launch Planned in Europe, USA Following Korea
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Kia announced that it will officially launch the eco-friendly SUV, 'The all-new Kia Niro,' on the 25th.
The new Niro has already forecasted a hit, recording a total of 17,600 cumulative pre-orders from the first day of pre-orders on the 18th through the 21st.
In particular, about 46% of the pre-order customers are from the 2030 generation, an increase of 16 percentage points compared to the existing Niro, showing great interest from younger customers.
By customer age, those in their 30s accounted for the largest share at 26.7%, followed by those in their 50s at 20.9%, 40s at 20.7%, 20s at 19.0%, and 60 and above at 12.7%.
Unlike the existing Niro, where customers in their 20s accounted for about 12%, the new Niro has gained much popularity among the younger generation. The trendier design, high fuel efficiency, and eco-friendliness seem to have captured the tastes of young consumers seeking reasonable consumption.
By trim selection ratio, the top-tier Signature trim was the most chosen at 45.1%, followed by Prestige (40.6%) and Trendy (14.3%).
The Signature trim comes standard with features that surpass its class, including Smart Cruise Control (with stop and go function), Safe Exit Assist, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and a 10.25-inch navigation system.
For exterior colors, Snow White Pearl, which matches the eco-friendly image, was the most selected at 51.3%, followed by Interstellar Gray at 13.9%.
Annual Domestic Sales Target of 25,000 Units
The new Niro aims to sell 25,000 units annually in the domestic market. Kia plans to sequentially introduce the new Niro in major global markets such as Europe and the United States following Korea.
The new Niro is equipped with a Smartstream G1.6 hybrid engine and a 32kW motor, delivering a system maximum output (including motor output) of 141 horsepower, achieving the highest combined fuel efficiency among domestic SUVs at 20.8 km/L (based on 16-inch tires, without built-in cam).
It incorporates the second generation of Green Zone Drive Mode and various eco-friendly materials, reflecting Kia's commitment to sustainability, and enhances space utilization with a larger body based on the third-generation platform.
Additionally, it maximizes user convenience by equipping advanced driver assistance systems and infotainment and convenience features that surpass its class, such as a head-up display, remote smart parking assist, rear passenger alert, and smart power tailgate.
The vehicle’s exterior completes a sophisticated and bold SUV style with aerodynamic body design and strong detailing, while the interior creates a luxurious atmosphere with features like a 10.25-inch panoramic display and a passenger relaxation comfort seat.
The sales prices are ▲Trendy 26.6 million KRW ▲Prestige 28.95 million KRW ▲Signature 33.06 million KRW (based on eco-friendly vehicle tax benefits and 3.5% acquisition tax). Meanwhile, the electric vehicle model of the new Niro is scheduled to be launched in the first half of this year.
Kwon Hyuk-ho, Head of Kia’s Domestic Business Division, said, "The new Niro is Kia’s representative eco-friendly SUV model that expands the use of eco-friendly materials and is the first in Korea to equip the second generation of Green Zone Drive Mode, considering not only the environment but also customers’ precious daily lives. We will lead the eco-friendly SUV market, supported by the expectations and interest shown by customers through pre-orders."
