Asiana Airlines Produces Tablet Pouches Recycled from Retrieved Uniforms

Asiana Airlines flight attendants are introducing tablet pouches, an upcycling product made using uniforms they collected.

[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Asiana Airlines announced on the 24th that it has produced eco-friendly upcycling products using collected uniforms.

The first product is an 11-inch tablet pouch featuring a design that highlights Asiana flight attendants' uniforms and saekdong (colorful striped fabric). This product will be used as event prizes for customers and employees in the future, and the company is monitoring responses to decide whether to sell it. They also plan to hold contests for upcycling ideas and product designs.

Asiana Airlines discards about 30,000 uniforms annually across various job categories. Due to the nature of the airline, over 8,000 employees wear uniforms, including flight crew, cabin crew, maintenance technicians, and airport staff. Asiana Airlines aims to participate in resource circulation and environmental protection by upcycling uniforms that are otherwise incinerated every year.

Last year, Asiana Airlines launched an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) task force and adopted the ESG best practices guidelines from the Korea Corporate Governance Service, holding management briefings and promoting various activities. This year, the company plans to accelerate ESG management by establishing a dedicated ESG team, forming committees, and expanding eco-friendly projects.

Choi Seok-beom, head of Asiana Airlines' ESG TF, said, “Utilizing resources that are easily consumed and discarded around us not only helps protect the environment but also serves as an opportunity to encourage employee participation in ESG management. This is why we planned the production of these upcycling products.”
