[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] On the 23rd, Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, said, "Our candidate has started to lead by a large margin," expressing expectations that handwritten letters from presidential candidate Yoon Seok-yeol delivered to the Honam region during the Lunar New Year holiday would greatly help in winning the hearts of Honam voters.

In a post on his Facebook that day, Lee said, "If 2 million letters containing the candidate's sincerity reach Honam next week, our candidate will receive more love even in Honam, a region where conservative parties have been at a disadvantage."

Earlier, Yoon's camp announced that they were considering sending 2 million handwritten letters to Honam timed with the Lunar New Year holiday. According to the Public Official Election Act, a presidential preliminary candidate can send promotional materials to about 2 million households, which is 10% of all voters, and the strategy is to concentrate most of these materials in Honam.

Lee said, "The letter contains a sincere and humble attitude toward Honam and the candidate's deep concern for the development of Honam."

He continued, "Originally, the plan was to use the candidate's handwritten font to send the letters, but the candidate insisted on approaching Honam with even more sincerity, so he personally wrote the letters by hand late into the night after finishing his daily schedule," adding, "I hope that sincerity reaches the hearts of each and every person."

Meanwhile, recent opinion polls show that candidate Yoon is leading Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung beyond the margin of error.

According to a regular weekly survey conducted by the Korea Society Opinion Institute (KSOI) from January 21 to 22, targeting 1,000 people nationwide aged 18 and over, when asked about 'support for the next presidential candidate,' Yoon received 43.8%, Lee 33.8%, Ahn Cheol-soo of the People’s Party 11.6%, Sim Sang-jung of the Justice Party 2.4%, and Kim Dong-yeon of the New Wave 0.6%.

This survey was conducted via wireless automated response system (ARS), with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. The response rate was 8.3%. For more details, refer to the KSOI or the Central Election Survey Deliberation Commission websites.
