Junggun Military Aircraft Conducts Air Defense Demonstration Over Taiwan Again... Largest Since October

[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Chinese People's Liberation Army military aircraft have continued their aerial pressure on Taiwan into the new year, entering Taiwan's southwestern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on the 23rd.

The Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense stated that in response to the Chinese military aircraft demonstration, Taiwan's military authorities urgently dispatched aircraft to issue radio warnings and deployed air defense missile systems to monitor the activities of the Chinese military aircraft.

The Chinese military aircraft involved in this show of force included a total of 39 planes: 2 Y-9 electronic warfare aircraft, 10 J-10 fighters, 24 J-16 fighters, 2 Y-8 anti-submarine aircraft, and 1 H-6 bomber.

China has continued its military demonstrations against Taiwan daily since the start of the new year. Previously, on the 16th, 10 Chinese military aircraft entered Taiwan's southwestern ADIZ, prompting the Taiwanese Air Force to dispatch patrol aircraft, issue radio warnings for withdrawal, and track them with ground-based air defense missiles.

This show of force involved 8 J-16 fighters, 1 Y-8 anti-submarine aircraft, and 1 Y-8 long-range electronic warfare aircraft.

Since the administration of pro-independence President Tsai Ing-wen, cross-strait relations have deteriorated, with China routinely deploying military aircraft into Taiwan's ADIZ to increase pressure on Taiwan, according to foreign media reports.

Earlier, when Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized his determination for "national reunification" in his New Year's address and directly mentioned Taiwan, President Tsai Ing-wen responded by calling to "stop China's military adventurism," escalating tensions between the two sides.

In the past year alone, China deployed a total of 961 military aircraft into Taiwan's ADIZ over 239 days, a 153% increase compared to the previous year (380 aircraft).

Notably, during the National Day holiday from October 1 to 4 last year, China conducted an unprecedented large-scale military demonstration by sending a total of 149 military aircraft into Taiwan's ADIZ, heightening fears of a potential war.
