[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu announced that it has produced and distributed an upgraded version of the 'Seocho Elementary Physical Education Classroom Season 3' to help elementary school students maintain a healthy lifestyle during their vacation despite the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2020, following the sudden shift to remote learning, the district introduced 'Seocho Elementary Physical Education Classroom' Seasons 1 and 2?the first local government physical education content?to address the limitations of physical education classes and the lack of quality content, alleviating concerns of teachers and parents.

The total of 40 contents from Seasons 1 and 2 of 'Seocho Elementary Physical Education Classroom' were actively used as physical education classes at schools and online home study content through the YouTube channel Seocho Elementary Physical Education Classroom. As a result, it received enthusiastic responses from elementary students and parents, accumulating 140,000 views.

Park OO (12), an elementary student at Seocho Elementary School who watched Season 2 in 2020, said, “When I watch videos and try to exercise, I get bored quickly, but the rhythmic dance felt like dancing and was easy to follow.” Comments on the program included reviews such as “I lost 4 kilograms after just one month” and “I exercised hard. It was even mentioned at school? Thank you.”

In particular, the 2022 'Seocho Elementary Physical Education Classroom Season 3' added posture balance activities such as yoga and ballet stretching to prevent postural imbalances like forward head posture, rounded back, and scoliosis, which often appear in elementary students who use smartphones frequently.

Along with this, the district produced a total of 17 episodes including ▲Growth Yoga (beginner, intermediate) ▲Ballet Stretching ▲Tabata (bodyweight full-body exercise/beginner, intermediate, advanced) ▲Broadcast Dance & Cheer Dance ▲Play Sports (Sports Stacking, Conbingo).

Additionally, Season 3 was created with a user-centered approach considering the lifestyle of elementary students. First, for students who mainly stay at home during vacations, the program encourages using everyday household items as exercise equipment without the need for separate tools, and focuses on low-intensity aerobic exercises to minimize noise between floors. The video length is composed to be within about 15 minutes.

The district expects that 'Seocho Elementary Physical Education Classroom Season 3' will help students maintain aerobic exercise and manage their weight at home during the prolonged COVID-19 era, supporting a healthy and energetic winter vacation life.

Meanwhile, 'Seocho Elementary Physical Education Classroom' has been benchmarked by other local governments and was recognized for its excellence by winning the Seoul Creative Award in the Innovation Policy category in the second half of 2020.

Bo-min Lee, Director of the Education and Sports Division, said, “We will continue to develop and provide various physical education contents that children in their growth period, who lack outdoor activities and face difficulties, can easily and enjoyably follow at school or home to help them grow up healthy.”
