[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] A public opinion poll showed that Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, is leading Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, by a margin outside the margin of error. Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People’s Party, recorded double-digit support ratings.

On the 23rd, the Korea Society Opinion Institute (KSOI) announced the results of a survey conducted from the 21st to the 22nd, targeting 1,000 men and women nationwide aged 18 and older, regarding support rates for the next presidential candidates. Candidate Yoon recorded 43.8%, up 2.4 percentage points from the previous week, while candidate Lee fell 2.4 percentage points to 33.8%, placing Yoon ahead of Lee beyond the margin of error. The gap between the two candidates is 10 percentage points.


By age group, candidate Yoon showed strength in their 20s (48.9%), 30s (40.6%), and 60s and older (52.7%), while candidate Lee led in their 40s (48.0%) and 50s (47.3%).


By region, Yoon’s support was higher in Seoul (44.5%), Incheon·Gyeonggi (42.2%), Daejeon·Sejong·Chungcheong (38.5%), Daegu·Gyeongbuk (58.0%), Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam (56.8%), and Gangwon·Jeju (53.5%), whereas Lee had higher support in Gwangju·Jeolla (59.4%).

Candidate Ahn recorded 11.6%, rising 2.0 percentage points from the previous survey (9.6%).


Other candidates included Sim Sang-jung of the Justice Party with 2.4% and Kim Dong-yeon of the New Wave Party with 0.6%.


Meanwhile, when asked about the nature of the next presidential election, 53.9% of respondents said they would vote for the opposition candidate to judge the current administration’s governance, while only 34.9% said they would vote for the ruling party candidate for stable governance and continuity. Those who answered “don’t know” accounted for 11.2%.
