[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] CU announced on the 23rd that it will launch a holiday convenience meal called ‘Bok Mani Dosirak’ for people spending Lunar New Year at home due to the spread of COVID-19.
Bok Mani Dosirak contains various jeon (Korean pancakes) such as large-width grilled neobiani with special sauce, kimchi jeon, seafood chive jeon, and omisanjeok. It also includes about 10 popular side dishes gathered in one meal, such as stir-fried kimchi, seasoned spinach, and braised quail eggs. The contents have been increased by about 20% compared to regular dosirak so that even adult men can enjoy a hearty meal.
According to an analysis of CU’s sales during the Lunar New Year holidays over the past three years, dosirak sales increased by 22.3% in 2019 compared to the previous week, 26.7% in 2020, and 30.8% in 2021. By location, single-person residential areas had more than 30% higher average daily dosirak sales per store during the holiday period than general locations.
A BGF Retail official said, “We launched the well-composed Bok Mani Dosirak hoping that customers starting a new year will have only good things this year as well,” adding, “As convenience stores have established themselves as a representative nearby consumption platform and the number of customers using them continues to increase, we will provide enjoyment with attractive products and services even during the holidays.”
