[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Shinhan Bank announced on the 21st that it held the 2022 Management Strategy Meeting and the 2021 Comprehensive Performance Evaluation Conference, with all employees participating, to disseminate the 2022 strategic direction and share the achievements of 2021.

The Management Strategy Meeting centered on the 2022 strategic goal, ‘Customer-Centric Reboot! Banking Beyond Limits!’ and proceeded in the order of ▲ presenting implementation plans for Shinhan Financial Group’s new core values of ‘Right, Fast, Different’ ▲ reviewing the 2021 financial performance and 2022 key strategic directions ▲ keynote speech ▲ 2022 management strategy priorities ▲ and a CEO special lecture.

Bank President Jin Ok-dong quoted a phrase from Simon Sinek’s book Leaders Eat Last, “A company that employees do not love will never be loved by customers first,” emphasizing, “To be loved by customers, the leaders of sales sites and headquarters, that is, all of you, must make great efforts so that employees can love the company first.” He continued, “The roles and attitudes required of our leaders, who are about to lead innovation from within and breakthroughs outward, find their answers in the new core values of ‘Right, Fast, Different.’”

First, regarding ‘Right,’ he said, “In organizations with weak culture, people do not do ‘the right thing’ but rather ‘what benefits themselves.’ One must constantly self-reflect by placing an internal observer within.” He added that everyone’s efforts are necessary for a just sales culture to take root, such as through the mutual growth evaluation system.

Next, on ‘Fast,’ he emphasized, “Leaders must put down authority and hierarchy and respond to changes with agility and flexibility so that all members can focus on their roles,” urging them to become playing coaches who work together amid various changes. Regarding ‘Different,’ he said, “All members should be able to freely raise issues, and leaders should ‘listen’ to these, applying different perspectives to derive new solutions, which creates a stronger effect.” He stressed that the core of breaking out of the bank’s framework lies in the imagination of members and the leader’s role in connecting these ideas.

Finally, he said, “The impact of the leadership mentioned earlier is not something that can be immediately confirmed but requires steady effort over a long breath,” and urged, “As Shinhan Bank celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, remember the past 40 years and recognize that all changes and innovations in the coming 40 years are for the customers.”

Meanwhile, the Comprehensive Performance Evaluation Conference was held as a festival to share praise and encouragement for the valuable processes and results achieved throughout the year and to celebrate new heroes revealed through awards.

In his encouragement speech, Shinhan Financial Group Chairman Cho Yong-byeong said, “Despite the difficult environment of COVID-19 in 2021, the valuable sweat of the field in protecting financially vulnerable groups and building Shinhan’s unique customer digital experience left a significant meaning,” and encouraged, “In 2022, let us pool our wisdom to create ‘Banking Beyond Limits’ by providing ‘easier, more comfortable, and newer finance’ from the perspectives of customers and society.”

The grand prize of the Comprehensive Performance Evaluation Conference, awarded to the community that achieved outstanding results through just processes in 2021, was given to the Dongtan Community. Additionally, six hidden heroes were specially promoted, including employees who excelled in customer-centric and process legitimacy despite the difficulties of COVID-19, those who contributed to the transition to a digital company, and those who personally practiced Shinhan’s ‘Warm Finance’ for small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners.

In particular, regulatory consultation staff and export-import officers who provide practical help in the sales field were recognized for their expertise and capabilities and promoted from clerical staff to general staff assistant managers. The Dongtan Community leader, Noh Kyung-hoon, who won the grand prize by forming trust through empathy and creating the best results through process legitimacy, was specially promoted to head of headquarters.
