[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in expressed his condolences on the passing of the world-renowned Buddhist leader Thich Nhat Hanh, calling him "a practicing Buddhist activist who demonstrated love for humanity through his actions."
On the 22nd, President Moon stated through social network services (SNS), "The world-renowned Buddhist leader and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh has passed away. I extend my deepest condolences."
President Moon said, "He was praised as a 'living Buddha' and was respected worldwide as one of the most influential spiritual leaders. He traveled around the world promoting anti-war, peace, and human rights movements, and was also actively involved in helping refugees."
He also mentioned that when Thich Nhat Hanh visited Korea twice during his lifetime, many resonated with his 'walking meditation,' adding, "He always emphasized 'mindfulness,' and his philosophy on happiness resonated with many, becoming a guide for life."
President Moon expressed, "The footprints, sayings, and teachings of the monk will always live and breathe through people's practice," and offered his condolences, saying, "I hope he rests in peace."
