Hansong Neotec, Full-Scale Development of Secondary Battery Equipment... "Investment Expansion Opportunities with LG Energy Solution, etc."

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyungsoo] Hansong Neotec announced on the 21st that it will expand its business area in related fields through the development of secondary battery process equipment based on its own semiconductor and display process technology.

Its subsidiary, Shinhwa IT, is conducting supply negotiations with global secondary battery customers such as Enertech International, Solid Energy Systems, and Enovix, focusing on lead tabs in the secondary battery materials sector. Synergy effects are expected.

Hansong Neotec has supplied process equipment for secondary batteries to LG Chem and has been registered as a partner of LG Energy Solution. It is also developing battery inspection equipment. With its own process technology accumulated in design and control across various advanced industries such as semiconductors and displays, the development of upgraded secondary battery process equipment is progressing smoothly.

Recently, Hansong Neotec signed a tripartite strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with its subsidiary Shinhwa IT and global secondary battery assembly process specialist DA Technology to diversify its business in the secondary battery field. Based on its own semiconductor and display process technology, Hansong Neotec plans to collaborate with DA Technology to develop various secondary battery process equipment. DA Technology is known to supply battery assembly process equipment to global automakers such as Rivian and Russian battery specialist companies.

A Hansong Neotec official said, "With the global secondary battery market boom and the listing of LG Energy Solution, worldwide investment in related fields is expected to expand," adding, "Orders in the secondary battery process equipment sector are expected to continue, and Hansong Neotec is anticipated to benefit."

He continued, "Hansong Neotec will strengthen global partnerships not only in secondary battery materials but also in various secondary battery process equipment fields to leap forward as a global secondary battery specialist company."

Hansong Neotec officially entered the secondary battery market by acquiring Shinhwa IT, a secondary battery materials specialist, in August last year. Shinhwa IT specializes in producing lead tabs, a core material of secondary batteries. Lead tabs are electrode terminals that connect to the cathode and anode of secondary batteries to input and output electricity externally. They are essential materials used in lithium-ion batteries as well as next-generation secondary batteries such as lithium-sulfur, lithium-metal, and all-solid-state batteries.

Shinhwa IT counts secondary battery companies such as Kokam and Rootjade among its major customers. Recently, in preparation for a surge in orders from global secondary battery customers including Enertech International, Solid Energy Systems, Enovix, and Zhongxin Guo'an Mengguli (MGL), it is promoting the expansion of high-performance lead tab production facilities.
