No Tae-moon, Head of Samsung Electronics MX Division
Publishes Article Ahead of Next Month's Unpacked Event
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] No Tae-moon, President of Samsung Electronics MX Division, who led the popularization of foldable smartphones in 2021, declared ahead of next month's Unpacked event that he will "write a new history for Galaxy" with the flagship smartphone Galaxy S22 series.
On the 21st, President No posted an article titled ‘Once Again Overcoming Limits to Establish a New Standard for Smartphones’ on Samsung Electronics Newsroom, revealing the outline of changes related to the Galaxy S22 series to be unveiled next month. The key emphasized areas are camera performance, battery, and execution speed. President No stated, "Users will be able to confidently capture bright and clear photos and videos even at night, and fully enjoy powerful battery life, execution speed, and useful features." He also added, "By holding the smartest product among all Galaxy phones ever, users will be able to experience cutting-edge innovation directly in their daily lives."
The S22 series is expected to be equipped with a triple camera system consisting of a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x zoom. The image sensor is Samsung’s ‘ISOCELL GN5’. The new S Pen, which is expected to be installed in the highest-spec model ‘Ultra’ that is anticipated to replace the past Galaxy Note series, will have a latency of 2.8ms, three times faster response speed compared to its predecessor. The leaked battery capacity of the S22 is 3,700mAh, which is 300mAh less than the previous model. It can provide about 9 hours of web surfing and 7 hours and 36 minutes of YouTube playback on a single charge.
As part of the industry’s key topic of ‘ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management,’ the S22 series also aims to be an eco-friendly product. Samsung announced a new vision called ‘Galaxy for the Planet’ in August last year and declared its plan to apply recycled materials to new Galaxy products by 2025. President No emphasized, "I am confident that this new product will be the most eco-friendly Galaxy product that can participate in opening a sustainable future."
Samsung Electronics is recognized for introducing innovative features that go beyond the smartphone category through various series such as Galaxy S, Z, and A. Representative examples include the digital pen S Pen that allows smartphones and tablets to be used like a notebook, the variation of large 5.3-inch screens, and efforts to popularize foldable smartphones through the Z series. President No said, "The experiences presented by Galaxy, such as the large screen once considered too big, the pen whose necessity was questioned, and the professional-grade camera that elevated mobile photography to a new level, were sometimes not immediately welcomed." He added, "However, Samsung Electronics has not been shaken by skeptical views and has continuously set new standards for innovation. I want to share this special experience of rewriting the future of smartphones with you."
