[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] POSCO apologized for the death of a subcontractor employee that occurred at the Pohang Steelworks.


In an apology statement issued under the name of Chairman Choi Jeong-woo, POSCO stated on the 20th, "We pray for the repose of the deceased who lost their life in an unfortunate accident and offer our deepest apologies and condolences to the bereaved family."


It continued, "We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by the loss of a precious life at the industrial site," adding, "We sincerely apologize for causing worry and concern to the local community that supports the company."


POSCO also explained, "The company has currently established an accident response team and is cooperating with relevant authorities to accurately identify the cause of the accident and to swiftly manage the situation," and "We intend to fully cooperate with future investigations by the authorities." Furthermore, it added, "Once again, we express our deepest condolences to the deceased and their family," and "We feel a heavy responsibility and will devote all efforts to prevent recurrence and to follow up with compensation and other measures."


According to POSCO and the Pohang Nambu Police Station, at around 9:47 a.m. on the same day, A (39), a subcontractor employee who was conducting safety monitoring for steam pipe insulation workers at the 3 Coke Plant in the Hwaseong Department of Pohang Steelworks, was hit by a charging vehicle and was transported to the hospital but passed away.
