Unauthorized Change in Construction Method for 'Gwangju Apartment Collapse'

Initial Approval of Safety Management Plan for 39-Story Conventional Formwork Concrete Pouring

Actually Proceeded with 'Mujibo' Method... Seo-gu "Never Received Change Application"

Unauthorized Change in Construction Method for 'Gwangju Apartment Collapse'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] It has been revealed that the construction method of the newly built apartment in Hwajeong-dong, Gwangju, where one person died and five went missing due to a collapse accident, was changed without permission.

According to Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 20th, Hyundai Development Company initially submitted a "safety management plan" to create a traditional formwork on the floor of the 39th floor, the top floor of Building 201 that collapsed, and proceed with concrete pouring.

This space is the ceiling slab of the PIT floor, which is a piping and equipment space, and Seo-gu approved the safety management plan.

However, in reality, this area was constructed using the "Mujibo" method. The Mujibo method involves bending galvanized steel plates to increase rigidity and pouring concrete without supporting props such as dongbari. It is said to save time and other resources.

The problem is that the change in construction method was not reported to the relevant local government. According to related laws, approval must be obtained if the construction method changes, but Seo-gu Office confirmed that it had not received any application from Hyundai Development Company.

A Seo-gu official said, "We have not received an application for approval of the construction method change, and once the police investigation results come out, we plan to discuss Hyundai Development Company's punishment based on that."
