[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Saemgoeul Market in Jeongeup, Jeonbuk, has been selected again this year for the 'Traditional Market Booth Event' at the Korea Fisheries Expo hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
According to the city on the 20th, the 'Traditional Market Booth Event' is a project aimed at revitalizing traditional markets by supporting the fisheries industry, which has been stagnant due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, and helping to restore weakened consumer sentiment.
It is a payback event where customers receive Onnuri gift certificates in varying amounts based on their purchase amount at 41 stores selling domestic seafood within Saemgoeul Market.
The Saemgoeul Market Merchants Association (Chairman Lee Heung-gu) actively proposed the event to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the National Merchants Federation, successfully attracting the event and securing a budget of 50 million KRW.
The event will be held from the 24th to the 30th of this month.
Customers who purchase over 17,000 KRW will receive a 5,000 KRW Onnuri gift certificate; over 34,000 KRW, a 10,000 KRW certificate; over 51,000 KRW, a 15,000 KRW certificate; and over 68,000 KRW, a 20,000 KRW certificate.
Information on seafood stores participating in the event can be confirmed at the Saemgoeul Market Merchants Association office, and related promotional materials will be placed in the participating stores to indicate their involvement.
To redeem the gift certificates, customers must visit the customer rest area within Saemgoeul Market with their purchase receipt (credit card slip or cash receipt) from the same day.
Each individual can receive a maximum refund of 20,000 KRW, and small receipts used on the same day can be combined.
The event may end early if the budget is exhausted.
The city is making every effort to promote consumption at traditional markets by posting event promotional banners in major city areas to encourage many citizens to participate in shopping at traditional markets.
Additionally, to comply with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, hand sanitizers will be placed throughout the market, and customers will be guided to wear masks and maintain social distancing while queuing.
A city official said, “We deeply appreciate the efforts of the Saemgoeul Market Merchants Association, who worked hard to attract the event again this year following last year. We hope this event will provide significant support to small business owners struggling due to COVID-19.”
