Gyeonggi-do Discovers Excellent Jobs... Promotes 'Job Policy Market'

A Total Investment of 3 Billion... 70% Support in Year 2, 50% in Year 3

Gyeonggi-do Discovers Excellent Jobs... Promotes 'Job Policy Market' Gyeonggi Provincial Government Northern Office

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province is promoting the '2022 Job Policy Market,' a project to discover new job opportunities in cooperation with 31 cities and counties to overcome employment difficulties and create jobs.

The province announced on the 20th that "this year, a total of 3 billion KRW of provincial funds will be invested to carry out projects in three areas: 'Discovery of New Job Projects,' 'Excellent Project Contest,' and 'Support for 2nd and 3rd Year Projects.'

'Discovery of New Job Projects' involves selecting job projects that cities and counties have independently identified by reflecting regional job environments and job demands by sector and class through a contest, and supporting the necessary costs for project implementation through provincial funding.

Each interested city or county can propose one new job project to the province, which will evaluate the proposals and select 5 to 7 projects, providing up to 300 million KRW in provincial funds per project.

The 'Excellent Project Contest' is a newly introduced category this year, implemented by spreading (selling) excellent projects from the existing Job Policy Market to other cities and counties.

As part of this, the 'Learning Support Service Project for Vulnerable Children,' led by Namyangju City and Anseong City, focusing on tutoring and reading activity support for vulnerable children, was selected as an excellent project and will receive provincial funding.

This provides jobs to career-interrupted workers within the province, such as freelancers in the education sector.

If selected in the new or excellent project contests, 100% of the total project cost will be supported in the first year, and depending on the project's performance, support for the 2nd and 3rd year projects will be 70% and 50% of provincial funds, respectively.

Projects that help prevent the spread of COVID-19 will receive additional points, and 3-5% of the total project budget will be allocated for purchasing quarantine supplies for participants.

Participants in the Job Policy Market projects will be paid the 2022 Gyeonggi Province living wage (hourly wage of 11,141 KRW).

Hyun Byung-cheon, Director of the Job Economy Policy Division, said, "In the situation where the economy is shrinking due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, discovering new jobs in the public sector is a very important task," and urged cities and counties to actively discover job projects that utilize regional characteristics so that more residents can participate.
