[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City and the Aerospace Industry-Academia Convergence Institute announced on the 20th that they have established an 'Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Indoor Test Room' necessary for the development and verification of flying vehicles such as drones and urban air mobility.

Located on the first floor of the Songdo Aerospace Industry-Academia Convergence Institute, this test room secures safety by separating the flying vehicle's movement measurement space and the operator with a safety net, and provides essential testing, analysis environments, and measured data for flying vehicle development free of charge.

Using eight infrared cameras that shoot 700 times per second and one video camera, the flying vehicle's movements are meticulously measured, and the measured data is quantified into distance, angle, and other numerical values to allow precise analysis of the flying vehicle's motion.

Additionally, based on the analyzed data, software development that controls various movements such as takeoff, landing, and turning is possible, which is expected to reduce the time and cost required for developing drones and urban air mobility flying vehicles.

The city stated that while such facilities have been established for self-research and development purposes by companies and universities, this is the first case in Korea where a local government has funded and installed such a facility for free use.

The city, which is building an urban air mobility demonstration platform, completed a 3D virtual digital twin platform for urban air mobility last year, and this year plans to accelerate the establishment of demonstration infrastructure such as communication waves and weather environments, focusing on building a 'Global Urban Cooperation Network (GURS)'.
