LH to Supply 400 Purchased Rental Housing Units for Youth Preparing for Independence

Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 20th that it will begin accepting applications for 400 purchase lease housing units for self-reliant youth (youth aging out of care) starting from the 24th.

The purchase lease housing for self-reliant youth (youth aging out of care) is supplied to support the independence of youth aging out of care who leave child welfare facilities, following the ‘Strengthening Support Measures for Youth Aging Out of Care’ implemented in July last year. LH prioritizes supplying its existing youth purchase lease housing to self-reliant youth (youth aging out of care).

The supplied housing units are youth purchase lease housing equipped with refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, etc., reflecting the needs of youth and other residents, and residents can live for up to 6 years. The rental conditions are about 40% of the nearby market price, with a deposit of 1 million KRW for all units, and rent varies by housing unit.

Applications are possible for those who are currently homeless as of the application date and are self-reliant youth (youth aging out of care) who are scheduled to leave or have left child welfare facilities (including foster care) within the last 5 years according to Article 16 of the Child Welfare Act. There are no separate income or asset criteria.

Applicants can check the available housing nationwide through prior consultation at LH Residential Welfare Offices regardless of their current residence, and applications can be submitted by visiting the respective Residential Welfare Office. If there is no immediately available housing in the desired area, applicants can register as standby tenants. LH plans to accept applications on an ongoing basis until the recruitment is complete.

Meanwhile, on the 14th, LH began accepting applications for jeonse lease housing for youth, newlyweds, and self-reliant youth (youth aging out of care). Applications are accepted until December 30th via the LH Application Center. Jeonse lease housing is housing where the selected tenant finds a desired residence, LH signs a jeonse contract, and then re-leases it at a reduced rate.

Youth jeonse lease housing is available to those who are homeless, unmarried, aged between 19 and 39, university students, or job seekers who are recipients of livelihood, medical, or housing benefits, as well as low-income groups and single-parent families under protection. The supply volume is 3,000 units.

Newlywed jeonse lease housing is for homeless household members who are newlyweds or couples within 7 years of marriage (including prospective newlyweds), single-parent families with children under 6 years old, and married households. Applications are accepted under two categories, Newlywed Type I and Type II, based on income and asset criteria, with 12,700 units supplied.

Jeonse lease housing for self-reliant youth (youth aging out of care) is available to unmarried homeless individuals who have ended foster care or left child welfare facilities within 5 years (including those scheduled to leave), as well as youth with extended protection. There is no limit on the number of units available for recruitment.
