A photo capturing the situation at the time was shared on the Facebook page 'Busan Police' as a heartwarming story about a female officer, but some criticized it as a staged act, and it has since been deleted.
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] After the Busan Police Agency posted a heartwarming story about a female police officer who took off her outerwear to cover an elderly man who collapsed in the cold, they deleted the post following criticism that it was a 'fabrication.' Meanwhile, a witness to the incident came forward to defend the female officer, stating, "It is absolutely not a fabrication." The term 'fabrication' refers to making up false facts.
Previously, on the official Facebook page of the Busan Police, 'Busan Police,' a heartwarming story about the female officer that had been posted on the 'Requests to the Chief' board of the Geumjeong Police Station on the 15th was shared.
The Busan Police stated in the post, "On the 15th, a post praising Officer A, who willingly took off her jumper to cover an elderly man who collapsed shivering in the severe cold, was uploaded on the Geumjeong Police Station's bulletin board. Officer A is a rookie police officer who always keeps in mind her initial resolve to protect the vulnerable first and uphold the law, warmly guarding the Beomeo District Police Substation area," they said.
They added, "The elderly man received emergency treatment from the 119 rescue team and returned home safely without any major health issues. Busan has warm-hearted police officers, and we will always be with you." The photo accompanying the post showed Officer A covering the elderly man who had collapsed on the road with her outerwear.
However, some netizens criticized the Busan Police, claiming the heartwarming story seemed fabricated. Netizens expressed negative reactions such as, "This is a promotional post," "Two officers must have been dispatched, so why is only the female officer visible?" and "It seems like an attempt to improve the female officer's image."
Meanwhile, a citizen who witnessed the incident claimed, "It is not a fabrication." According to an MBN report on the 19th, a man in his 50s named Lee reported the collapsed elderly man to 112 himself, and Officer A arrived at the scene afterward. Lee said that although the intoxicated elderly man kicked and caused a disturbance, Officer A calmed him down and accompanied him home.
Lee explained, "The police officer was a young person in their early 20s. When the elderly man said he was cold, she covered him with her jumper." "The elderly man behaved unpleasantly by kicking while intoxicated, but the female officer spoke to him about family matters. When the elderly man mentioned his daughter, that became the turning point for calming him down."
He continued, "The elderly man struggled so much that the jumper (which the female officer had covered him with) became very dirty. If I were that female officer, no matter how cold it was, I would never have worn the dirty jumper again. But she put the jumper back on and accompanied the elderly man home."
Meanwhile, the heartwarming post about the female officer has been removed from the Busan Police Facebook page. It appears to have been deleted to prevent the spread of negative public opinion.
