Gwangyang Economic Zone Authority Listens to Difficulties of Yulchon Industrial Complex Tenants


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Song Sang-rak, Commissioner of the Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority, visited Samwoo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (CEO Jeon Sang-hong), located in Yulchon 1st Industrial Complex, as the first company visit of the new year of the Year of the Tiger. He listened to the company's difficulties and management status and toured the production site.


Samwoo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. moved into Yulchon 1st Industrial Complex in May 2007 and is a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. Its main products include blocks for various ships such as container ships, LNG carriers, and LPG carriers, as well as many equipment products such as partial reliquefaction systems and full reliquefaction systems, which are LNG recovery devices for greenhouse gas reduction.


Furthermore, through thorough process management and production of high-quality products, the company achieved sales of 85.2 billion KRW in 2021, and plans to continue investing in equipment necessary for production, production convenience facilities, and environmental protection this year. Currently, the number of employees, including subcontractors, is about 980, and approximately 220 people are expected to be hired in 2022.


The CEO of Samwoo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. said, "Although the domestic and international economic conditions are unstable due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, global economic contraction, and domestic recession, we will do our best to revitalize the local economy by continuously challenging new markets with relentless passion and hiring personnel."


Song Sang-rak, Commissioner of the Gwangyang Economic Authority, said, "Despite the difficult economic conditions, I appreciate Samwoo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. for producing high-quality products with excellent technology and contributing to local job creation." He added, "We will do our best to ensure that companies located in the Yulchon Industrial Complex do not face any inconveniences in management at the frontline."
