[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hye-young] LG Electronics announced on the 19th that it has launched the ‘GHP Super3 Plus,’ a commercial gas-powered system air conditioner (GHP) equipped with an emission reduction device, in the domestic market.

GHP is a product that operates an engine using gas as fuel to provide heating and cooling. Because it uses gas, it is more economical than electric system air conditioners, which require payment of a basic electricity fee even during periods when heating or cooling is not needed.

LG Electronics applied a three-way catalytic converter, an emission reduction device, for the first time in the ‘GHP Super3 Plus.’ The three-way catalytic converter converts air pollutants emitted from conventional GHPs, such as nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons?which cause fine dust and global warming?into harmless gases like nitrogen and oxygen.

According to KS standard test results, the new product emits nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons at levels below 15 ppm, 90 ppm, and 90 ppm, respectively. It is the first domestic product to meet the strengthened high-efficiency energy equipment certification technical standards implemented by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy earlier this year. Additionally, it is expected to satisfy the Ministry of Environment’s Air Quality Conservation Act enforcement regulations, scheduled to take effect in January next year, which exclude reporting requirements for air emission facilities emitting less than 30% of the allowable limits for nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons.

The ‘GHP Super3 Plus’ can connect up to 58 indoor units, including LG Whisen system air conditioners with a 5-stage clean management function, to a single outdoor unit. This makes it effective for simultaneously heating and cooling multiple individual spaces in buildings, schools, medical facilities, and more.

Additionally, it can be connected with LG Electronics’ representative electric system air conditioner product, Multi V, to be used as a hybrid heat pump system air conditioner. LG Electronics’ hybrid heat pump system air conditioner, first launched domestically in February last year, has the advantage of reducing heating and cooling costs by organically linking electric and gas systems.

LG Electronics is the only company in the GHP industry to manufacture this product domestically. Its subsidiary, HiEM Solutech, is responsible for management and service. Through LG Electronics’ comprehensive air conditioning maintenance system, ‘LG Beacon Cloud,’ equipment status is monitored online in real time to support stable use.

Lee Jae-sung, Vice President and Head of the Air Solution Business Division at LG Electronics, said, “We will continue to introduce eco-friendly, high-efficiency products to pursue sustainability for businesses and society while strengthening our competitiveness in the global air conditioning market.”
